India is a colorful country. The geographical location of the place is as colorful as it is also found in its festivals. A colorful picture of cultural festivals celebrated in every corner of India is made.

Onam festival of Kerala is included in this list. The specialty of this festival is that on this day people do not offer prayers at temples and holy places, but worship is done in the house itself. 

In the context of this festival, it is said that there was an Demon king named Mahabali Who loved people so much. In Kerala and other regions, people celebrate the festival of Onam in this respect. 

People also celebrate it for crop and yield. The festival of Onam lasts for a period of ten days.

Along with snake boat races, Kathakali dance and songs are also organized during this festival. This festival celebrated on Shukla Trayodashi of Shravan Month in Amavasyant Luner Calendar is also called Tiru-Onam. 

In the month of Shravan, greenery is seen everywhere in every part of India, the weather becomes very pleasant in this month. In the joy of harvesting, a new zeal, new hope and new faith is awakened in the minds of people. 

In this happiness, Shravan and flowers are worshiped in every house. Its preparation starts ten days before the festival of Onam. A flower house is also made in every house and flowers are decorated in a circular form after cleaning the room. 

On the first eight days of this festival, a program of floral decoration goes on. An idol of Lord Vishnu is made in every house on the ninth day. They are worshiped and the women of the family play dance applause around it, this dance is called Thappatikali. 

The idol of Ganesh Ji and Shravan Devta is made at night and the idol is immersed after worship in the evening. 

Onam festival is mainly known for its boat races. This is its most important and popular side. The boat race is called Vallamukali. There are big boats in this race and there are 20 to 40 people who run them. 

There is also a special dish of this festival called Valsan and it is cooked in every household. On this day, steam-cooked banana dishes are made and eaten in the morning, this breakfast is called Nemdram. This is a special type of banana, which is found only in Kerala.

Like other festivals, fine dishes are prepared in this festival too. The Kerala government celebrates it as a tourist festival. During this time, the cultural heritage of Kerala is seen on sight. 

On the occasion of Onam, the whole of Kerala comes alive with programs like boat competition, dance, music, Mahabhoja etc. This festival is a symbol of embracing the beauty of life of Keralites. This festival is one of the most colorful festivals in India.
