Nag Panchami is one of the best festivals of Hindus. In some parts of India worship live Nags are performed. Nag Panchami is the festival of snakes. The Hindu mythology has given due reverence to the snakes, especially the Lord Vishnu snake, the snake on which Lord Vishnu rests. 

The most popular legend is about Lord Krishna. When Krishna was just a young boy. He was playing the game of throwing the ball with his friends. During the play, the ball fell into Yamuna River. The legend, how Krishna vanquished Kalia Serpent and saved the people.

Nag Panchami FEstival falls on the fifth day of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Shravana according to Hindu Vikrami Samvat Panchang. Nag Panchami is celebrated all over India every year. Nag Panchami is celebrated around the monsoon time when the snakes are mostly around, and the people pray to the snakes in order to be safeguarded against snake bites.

Nag Panchami is a festival that brings siblings together to celebrate their family well-being. This festival is observed on the fifth day of Shravana month of the Hindu lunar calendar after the amavasya of aashaadha month. Lord Shiva is also worshiped on Nag Panchami as he was very fond of snakes and had one wrapped around his neck. 

There are legends associated with Nag Panchami. The legend forbids a farmer to till his land, as once a farmer had accidentally killed a young serpent while ploughing his field. The mother of that serpent had avenged its death by killing the farmer and his family, except his daughter who at that time was worshiping the Nag. Because of her prayers, the whole family was revived the popular belief since that worship of snakes will protect the whole family from snake bites.

The celebrations will be as every year, where the people will bathe the snake or the snake idol with milk, and there will be music and a fair organized which will feature magic shows and acrobatic feats.
