The full moon of the bright half of the month of Ashada is called Guru Purnima or Vyas Purnima. This festival is celebrated with great reverence throughout India. There is a method to perform guru puja on this day. 

The importance of Guru has been given a high status by all our saints, sages and great personalities. Guru is the Sanskrit word. 'Guru' which means that leads us from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge.

In Hindus, Guru has a place ahead of God, only then it is said that the first Guru of our life is our parents. Those who nurture us, for the first time in the worldly world, tell us about speaking, walking and the initial and primary things. Therefore, the place of parents is foremost. 

We need a guru to keep the development of life going smoothly. Future life is created by the Guru only. The Guru has a special contribution in removing the evil poison prevalent in the human mind.

The relationship of a Guru disciple is similar to a bridge. The path of the disciple's goal is made easier by the grace of the Guru.

Guru's place is superior to God. Gurus are the basis of our civilized social life. There have been many gurus who educated their disciples in such a way that their disciples changed the course of the nation. 

Guru Purnima is also known as Vyasa Purnima because this day is also the birthday of Krishna Dwaipayan Vyas, the author of Mahabharata. Ved Vyas ji was a scholar, he also composed the Vedas and hence he is also known as Ved Vyas.

In India, the festival of Guru Purnima is celebrated with great reverence and faith. There is a method of Guru Puja on this day. Although there have been many scholars from one to the other across the country, but Maharishi Veda Vyas, who was the first lecturer of the four Vedas, is worshiped on this day. 

This Guru Purnima festival is celebrated in the memory of Krishnadvapayan, the department of esoteric secrets of Veda. Inspired by this faith and reverence, the disciples worshiped their guru and gave them their power and Dakshina according to their strength.

On the day of Guru Purnima, in the morning, after cleaning the house, after bathing, get ready by wearing clean clothes. By laying white cloth on a slab in a holy place of the house, 12-12 lines should be made on it. Then we should take the pledge to worship with the mantra ‘Gurpuranparasiddhyayartham Vyasapoojana Karishye’. 

Thereafter one should leave Akshat in ten directions and then invoke worship by chanting the names of Vyasji, Brahmaji, Shukdevji, Govind Swamiji and Shankaracharyaji. Now, by worshiping his guru or his picture, he should give Dakshina according to his ability.
