Krishna Janmashtami is also known as Krishnashtami. In Uttar Pradesh it is also known as Ashtami.

Janmashtami i.e. the birthday of Shri Krishna. it is a very famous and popular festival of Hinduism. He is considered an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Lord Krishna was born in Mathura. He was raised in Gokul and Vrindavan. Janmashtami is mainly known as Dahi Handi in Mumbai and Pune. In Gujarat where there is Dwarkadhish temple in Dwarka city, this festival is celebrated with great fervor.

The people of Puri and West Bengal in the eastern state of Orissa, Navadwip celebrate it with fasting and offer prayers at midnight.

The Puran Prakashan has been taken from the Bhagavata Purana itself, it is derived from its 10th wing which is related to Lord Krishna's past.

The next day is called Nanda Utsav, Nanda Maharaj and Yashoda Maharani's Anand Utsav. On that day people open their fast and offer various cooked sweets during the early hours of the morning. The festival of Krishnashtami brings a feeling of happiness and unity. This day is dedicated to the worship of Lord Krishna. Sri Krishna gave advice and many sermons in the Gita. Every word written in Bhagwat Purana has always inspired people to fight against injustice.
