Kirit Shakti Peeth is among the 51 Shakti Peeth of Maa Sati. It is said that, the crown or headdress of Maa Sati fell here, when lord Vishnu in order to relieve lord Shiva from grief of losing his wife Sati, used his Sudarshan Chakra to incise Maa Sati Body. Then, at the place of fall of crown, this temple was constructed. Kirit Shakti Peeth is situated in Murshidabad district West Bengal. Here the idol of Maa Sati is called as Vimla and the lord Shiva is worshipped as Sangbarta.

A marvelous power of the Universe Goddess Kiriteswari temple is one of the historic places in India, where Red colored stone (covered by veil which is changed only on Asthami of each Durga Puja and given a sacred bath) is worshipped as a Devi Shakti Vimla by devotees. According to the Hindu legends, it is whispered that the Crown or Kirit of Sati’s body fell here. The main idols of this legendary divine place are Devi as Vimla and Lord Shiva as Sangbarta worshipped here.
