Karwa Chauth Fast

In India, the fast of Karwa Chauth is observed as a very precious festival. It is said that it empowers a married women to even challenge the decision of the almighty. As it is kept in order to bring fortune as well as well being along with long life for one’s husband, almost every women in the country observes this fast. Though there may be regional variations in the name and rituals, the festival is celebrated with immense zeal and gusto throughout the country. 

The festival is celebrated just nine days before Diwali i.e. on the fourth day of the Kartik month by the Hindu calendar (fourth day of the waning moon or the dark fortnight). The festival is celebrated under the name of Karwa Chauth and the rituals given below are observed in states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, U.P., and Gujarat.

हिंदू सनातन संस्कृति में करवा चौथ सुहागिनों का महत्वपूर्ण त्योहार माना गया है। इस पर्व पर महिलाएं हाथों में मेहंदी रचाकर, चूड़ी पहनकर व सोलह श्रृंगार करके अपने पति की पूजा करके व्रत का पारायण करती हैं। 

सुहागिन या पतिव्रता स्त्रियों के लिए करवा चौथ बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण व्रत है। यह व्रत हिन्दू विक्रमी सम्वत पंचांग के कार्तिक मास के कृष्ण पक्ष की चंद्रोदय व्यापिनी चतुर्थी को किया जाता है। यदि दो दिन की चंद्रोदय व्यापिनी हो या दोनों ही दिन, न हो तो 'मातृविद्धा प्रशस्यते' के अनुसार पूर्वविद्धा लेना चाहिए।

स्त्रियां इस व्रत को पति की दीर्घायु के लिए रखती हैं। यह व्रत अलग-अलग क्षेत्रों में वहां की प्रचलित मान्यताओं के अनुरूप रखा जाता है, लेकिन इन मान्यताओं में थोड़ा-बहुत अंतर होता है। सार तो सभी का एक होता है पति की दीर्घायु।
