Holi is a festival of colors, fun and joy. This festival is celebrated on the Purnima tithi of the month of Phalgun. There are many statements regarding this! Holika Dahan i.e. Holi is lit one night before celebrating Holi. 

Devotee Prahlada's father Hiranyakashyap considered himself a god. He was opposed to Lord Vishnu! While his son Prahlada was a devotee! of Lord Vishnu. He prevented Prahlada from doing worship of Vishnu Ji. When he did not agree, he tried to kill Prahlada. Prahlada's father finally sought help from his sister Holika.

Because Holika had the boon that Holika can never burn in fire. Holika sat in the pyre with Prahlada but by the grace of Lord Vishnu, devotee Prahlada was safe and Holika was consumed by burning. This story is an indication that good must triumph over evil. 

Even today, on the full moon day, Holi is lit, and on the next day everyone puts gulal, abir and different colors on each other. This festival is a festival of colors. On this day, people wake up in the morning and go to the homes of their relatives and friends with colors and play Holi with them fiercely.

This festival holds special significance for children. He brings various types of Water gun and balloons buy from the market to him one day in advance. Children enjoy Holi with their friends with balloons and Water gun. Everyone forgets hostility and hugs each other. Women make sweets, gujhias, etc. a day in advance and share among themselves in their neighborhood. 

Many people go out by making a Holi group called Huriyare. Holi of Braj, Holi of Mathura, Holi of Vrindavan, Holi of Barsane, Holi of Kashi etc. are famous all over India.
