As per the traditional Hindu religious lunar calendar, the full moon day in the month of Ashaad is grandly celebrated as Ashada Purnima. This particular Purnima is also known as Guru Purnima.This particular day is largely dedicated to pay respect and obeisance to all those Gurus or master who has strongly helped a person shape his or her personal and professional life. According to the Hindu religious texts and scriptures, Guru Purnima is a form of “Teacher’s day” celebrated in a festive manner as per the Hindu tradition and culture.This particular day is actually the birthday of ancient popular Guru Ved Vyas. It was he who edited the four Vedas and wrote Srimad Bhagavata, Mahabharat and 18 Puranas. During the chaturmaas period, this full moon day is one of the initial among the slew of festivals.
Even in the present scenario of religious following strictly according tradition and culture, all students of Vedas worship Ved Vyas. They perform aarti and pujas of the great saint of Vedas who is regarded as the fountainhead of all knowledge.Even in the present scenario of Indian culture and tradition, the Guru shishya parampara is strictly followed. The Indian classical music students celebrates Ashada purnima as Guru Purnima as thanks giving day for all their Gurus who imparted knowledge and awareness in them.It is to be remembered that Vyasa puja is conducted in a grand manner in various temples. Symbolic gifts and floral offerings are given to the cosmic satguru. The symbolic wash of Guru’s feet is also done on this day.
